Tea Factory Gen Tour | Sustainable Business

Amazing opportunity to visit and learn from the founding owner of Tea Factory Gen, natural tea manufacturer, in the Sera area of Hiroshima Japan.

The facility is not usually open for walk-ins, so you will need to make a booking in advance. Please reach out if you would like to book something.

If you drive up and he is working there, you might be able to convince the owner to provide a tasting sample through the window if he’s not too busy- he is very friendly and welcoming.

In terms of sustainability, this is a fantastic reuse of an old facility as well as reusing old Japanese machines from Shizuoka that still work well after more than 60 years.

The tea plantation has been run in a natural way without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers for over 70 years.

The owner told us the reason to use so many machines is to mimic the human touch of hand-processed tea, so temperatures never go higher than 36.5 degrees during manufacturing.

Apparently, tea manufacturing went through a phase of using all-in-one machines that did the entire process (now done with multiple machines) but the quality of the tea was inferior to what can be produced with multiple machines like we see at TFG.

This is where the high quality natural tea of the TEA FACTORY GEN brand is harvested, processed and packaged.

Post-covid travelers may be able to book a private, small group tour, workshop and tea sampling – great if you’re a Japanese tea lover. If you are interested, I can help you set something up for your next visit.

Until then, you can buy his lovely organic/natural tea online from the TEA FACTORY GEN shop.

If you order anything, please mention that you saw it on InboundAmbassador or from JJWalsh- thanks!
